CERVANTES INTERPRETA MÚSICA DE EUA Y MÉXICO EN GUADALAJARA EL 5 DE NOVIEMBRE A LAS 1200 Y A LAS 1900

Me da gran placer anunciar mi "debut" en la ciudad de Guadalajara, Jalisco el día miércoles 5 de noviembre, con dos funciones presentadas por la Universidad del Valle de Atemejac (UNIVA).  Como parte de la Feria Internacional de la UNIVA, interpretaré dos conciertos cortos, a las 12:00 del día y a las 19:00 horas (concierto de clausura).  Los conciertos representarán varios estrenos en Guadalajara y el ESTRENO MUNDIAL de una obra del talentoso joven compositor estadounidense Charles Griffin.

De especial orgullo es que el concierto de clausura de la Feria Internacional de la UNIVA representará el ESTRENO MUNDIAL del Preludio: Homenaje a Chopin del talentoso joven compositor estadunidense Charles Griffin.  También quisiera expresar mi profundo agradecimiento al Consulado de Estados Unidos de América en Guadalajara.  Si no fuese por su apoyo estos dos conciertos no serían posibles.  Dicho apoyo también propicia la mayor difusión de la nueva creación musical de algunos de los más talentosos creadores de los EUA, no únicamente de la generación anterior, sino de la actualidad.

AGUA Y PIEDRA: CERVANTES INAUGURA LA EDICIÓN 2003-2004 DE LA US-MÉXICO LECTURE SERIES EN LA UNIVERSIDAD DE DALLAS, TEXAS ...

Me da gran placer anunciar que el sábado 4de octubre 2003 interpreto un concierto llamado Agua y Piedra/Water and Stone: Música reciente de México en la ciudad de Dallas, Texas.  El concierto inaugura la temporada 2003-2004 de la  "US-México Lecture Series" de la Universidad de Texas en Dallas, una serie en que otros ponentes han sido luminarios de la talla de Carlos Fuentes y Elena Poniatowska, entre otros.  El día antes del concierto doy un "concierto-charla" multidisciplinaria con alumnos y maestros de dicha universidad.  Para detalles sobre mi concierto y más informes, favor de hacer clic en la siguiente dirección:

Me alegra anunciar que el domingo 7 de septiembre la reconocida soprano Patrice Michaels y yo reanudaremos nuestra colaboración en un concierto llamado Fuego en la Sangre/Fire in the Blood, en la ciudad de Chicago, Illinois, EUA.  El concierto tendrá lugar en el Preston Bradley Hall del Centro Cultural de Chicago a las 15:00 horas (3PM), con entrada gratis.  El concierto se patrocino por la Ciudad de Chicago como parte de la serie "Viajes vocales" y el foro es en un espléndido recinto en el centro de la ciudad, en que luce un enorme techo abovedado de cristal de Tiffany, y en que se despliegue un extraordinario acervo de arte visual y memorabilia de la ciudad de Chicago.  Nuestro programa cuenta con ciclos de canciones por tres consecuentes compositores de nuestro hemisferio y de Inglaterra:

Ø Tres Canciones sobre textos de García Lorca , del afamado creador mexicano FEDERICO IBARRA GROTH: pocos compositores podrían realizar en música la inmediatez emocional de Lorca como lo puede hacer Ibarra: una espectral canción de cuna de extraordinaria belleza, la narrativa de un sueño de la muerte, un diálogo con un funesto amor …

Ø Cuatro Canciones Teatrales, del reconocido compositor inglés STEPHEN MCNEFF con letra de Edward Bond: capta un enorme rango de emociones, desde el frenético escarnio de "Sobre los Músicos" hasta la dolida ternura de su "Canción de las Víctimas" …

Ø Mi Canción, del renombrado compositor cubano GUIDO LÓPEZ GAVILÁN, con letra de Rabindranath Tagore, en que el amor tanto espiritual como emocional que propone el texto se realiza musicalmente con enorme generosidad y calidez, una escritura en la verdadera tradición del "lied" y del cantautor …

… amén de obras escogidas de compositores tanto de los EEUU como de México y América Latina,  tales como Libby Larsen, Samuel Barber y Robert Carl (EUA), Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras y Lilia Vázquez (México), Astor Piazzolla (Argentina), y el estreno en Estados Unidos de la canción " … que va más allá del todo entendimiento"  del joven compositor mexicano Horacio Uribe (con letra de la poetisa Denise Levertov), obra encargada por el dúo para el XXX Festival Internacional Cervantino (2002) y que allí recibió su estreno mundial.  Y no de menos, canciones de Maurice Ravel y Manuel de Falla.

It gives me special pride that the clausura concert of the Feria Internacional of the UNIVA will represent the WORLD PREMIERE of the Prelude: Homage to Chopin of the gifted young US composer Charles Griffin.  I would also like to express my gratitude to the US Consulate in Guadalajara.  Without their support these two concerts would not be possible.  Additionally and just as important, the Consulate demonstrates considerable imagination by fostering the greater recognition of new musical creation not only by the previous generation of United States composers, but also by some of this generation's bright lights.

I am delighted to announce that Sunday, 7 September renowned soprano Patrice Michaels and I will collaborate again, in a concert titled "Fire in the Blood/Fuego en la Sangre", in Chicago, Illinois.  The concert will take place in the Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center at 3:00 PM.  Admission is FREE. The concert is presented by the City of Chicago as part of the series "Vocal Journeys", and the venue is a gorgeous hall with a domed Tiffany ceiling as well as an extraordinary collection of art and historical memorabilia of the City of Chicago.  Our program will feature three song cycles by important composer of our own hemisphere and of England:

Ø Three Songs on Texts of García Lorca, of renowned Mexican composer FEDERICO IBARRA GROTH: Ibarra is one of the few composers who can realize in music Lorca's incredible emotional immediacy: here a ghostly lullaby of enormous beauty; a surreal dream narrative; a dialogue with a deadly love …

Ø Four Theatre Songs, of acclaimed English composer STEPHEN McNEFF, on texts by Edward Bond: an enormous emotional range is captured here, from the frantic scorn of "On Musicians" to the grieving tenderness of "Song of the Victims" …

Ø My Song, of wonderful Cuban composer GUIDO LÓPEZ GAVILÁN, on texts of Rabindranath Tagore, in which the love --as much spiritual as emotional-  proposed by the text is realized musically with enormous generosity and warmth, vocal writing of great skill in the true tradition of "lied" and of the singer-songwriter
